Grief Awareness Week - 2 December to 8 December 2024

National Grief Awareness Week in 2024 will take place from 2nd to 8th December. It’s an annual event that aims to create a safe space to discuss grief and loss, and to encourage empathy and support for those who are grieving.

Grief is a universal part of the human experience, and there is no right or wrong way to grieve. Feelings can change day to day or even hour to hour, and it’s normal to have ups and downs. If you continue to be overwhelmed by your feelings, you should talk to your GP or another health or social care professional.

For more information on the Grief Awareness Week campaign visit:https://www.thegoodgrieftrust.org/ngaw/

Want to know more about… Switch on to women's safety

Thursday 5 December 2024, 10am to 11:30am

85% of women in Leeds have been harassed in the streets and more than 20% have been sexually assaulted or raped. Working with a consortium that includes Men’s Health Unlocked and Women’s Lives, Humans Being have created a short workshop called 'Switch on to women's safety' that can be delivered to people of all ages.

At this Want To Know More About session you will learn how to deliver the ‘Switch on' workshop. The workshop supports men to understand women’s experiences of harassment, abuse and assault in public places and find practical tools, ideas and solutions to address the issue. The 'Switch on' workshop harnesses the empathy that men feel towards victims of abuse and harassment and shows them how they can confidently make interventions that help girls and women to feel safe and respected.

This webinar is suitable for any trainers or leaders with a cohort of male staff, volunteers, learners or service users that may benefit from greater awareness of the impact of harassment of women and how to deal with it. This training is open to all genders.

This session will:

  • provide the knowledge and resources you need to confidently run the ‘Switch on to women's safety' workshop with your community or staff team
  • share effective bystander strategies and ideas around disrupting the cultures that can enable the abuse of women to occur

This session will be delivered online by Duncan Millard (Humans Being), Simon Phillips (Leeds Jewish Housing Association) and Joe Kemp (Touchstone).

Want to know more about… West Yorkshire healthier together

Tuesday 17 December 2024, 1pm to 2pm

This session is for anyone who wants to know more about supporting families to manage seasonal illness this winter using the Healthier Together platform.

In the winter months it is more common for babies and children to become unwell. Healthier Together is an online resource which provides families, children, and young people across West Yorkshire with consistent and high-quality advice from local health and care professionals. All the information on the website has been written by doctors and other healthcare staff in West Yorkshire. Resources on this site can support families in decision making and give advice on things such as managing illness at home, when to seek medical attention, and when it is okay to send a child to school.

This webinar is aimed at people in Leeds who work with families. The session is designed for a non-clinical audience, to empower those who work with families in Leeds to understand and promote Healthier Together.

This session will cover:

  • common winter illnesses and why using Healthier Together is important, both for families and for the local NHS
  • how to use Healthier Together and what it can do
how to promote Healthier Together in local family settings and within communities.

This session will be delivered online by Dr Helen Haywood (GP and Children's Physical Health Clinical Lead, West Yorkshire ICB), Dannie Harding (Healthier Together Project Manager) and Eloise Pearson (Senior Programme Manager, West Yorkshire ICB)

The new digital hub replaces their existing website at www.leedssexualhealth.com

It offers people more choice in how to access support with their sexual and reproductive health. Designed to expand the online offer and direct people quickly and easily to the right service, the new website includes:

  • Access to short acting contraception online.
  • Access to electronic prescriptions for chlamydia treatment.
  • The ability to order postal STI testing kits.
  • An online chat function enabling users to chat to a healthcare professional.
  • A new accessibility toolbar allowing visitors to customise how the content is presented and translate the information into a language that works best for them.

Face to face appointments are still available where this is preferred and the criteria to access new digital services is fully detailed on the hub.

On the site you can also find accurate and trusted information about emergency contraception, pregnancy testing, STI testing and treatment, HIV testing, PEP and PrEP (HIV prevention and treatment) as well as find information specifically for young people.
