I'm going to re-post this as it needs more reach.The non-profit who hold the monopoly on the .nl domains have decided to move their crown jewels onto Amazon Web Services.Those with a basic understanding of technology, the internet and technical law can see the issue: such a change makes it far easier for a State Actor or co*ked-Up-Tech-Billionaire to interfere with the core infrastructure of our country. On in short: an unbelievably terrible decision which I expect is driven by a combination of ego and lack of expertise.

A slightly different set of key-takeaways for me 💡 but nevertheless an #awesome #MicrosoftIgnite event. The 🎬 clip does capture a great week with lots of ideas and inspiration! ✅ The age of copilots; shared before but everything feels like it needs CoPilots. Besides it being a hype and there were a few things that felt like a lot of marketing, the overall gist was awesome. Lots of accelerators that will help you. Also loved the following write-up: https://lnkd.in/ePmFTmeZ Biggest downside is that a lot of those copilots are not really available yet 😟 ✅ Low-code is still a hot topic, while #MicrosoftIgnite is traditionally not just a low-code event there where ample announcement about the good stuff happening there! More connectors, easier to use, building CoPilots. So still confident low-code is a great tech to work with ✅ I loved the 15 minute demo sessions, I spend a good portion of the second day watching community members and product teams presenting the latest and greatest. Great speed of innovation and watching 3 or 4 certainly energizes you ⚡. Now back to work and to find time to build out new #samples and #blogs

The attack on the Public Cloud usersListening to an otherwise wonderful weekend podcast this morning (thank you, Maaike Louwrier), I was again struck by the personal nature of the attacks on the SIDN. I do not know anyone from the SIDN, but declassifying the technology necessary to run this institution's responsibilities as just a 'database of 1200 addresses' sounds like a personal crusade. I toyed with the idea of drawing parallels with the Inquisition, though fun, not very constructive.The aim of figuring out how to take cloud matters into our own European hands is necessary. We have written (and talked) about this ad nauseam (to stay close to my discarded analogy). We really need the skills and knowledge to run our own infrastructure. The land war we are currently in demonstrates that particularly well.But, attacking AWS/Azure/GCP users and branding them heretic (sorry, can't help myself) is not helpful. There is no alternative in Europe (yet) that brings developer convenience at the levels these guys do. Even suggesting that this 'simple database' can be run on something like Leaseweb or Bit (again, don't know anyone there) is just offensive, even if it is true.Only when we can articulate a cloud future that doesn't look like the current hyperscalers, can we work our way out of this self dug hole. Building another Azure is not only difficult, it lacks imagination and will put us forever in a loosing position. The question is not how to build another AWS, but how to offer a more compelling developer experience.(The discussion that caused this post starts at minute 37.)https://lnkd.in/e45_9b2Z
