city council will have the final say and needs to approve that increase. they plan to address any questions at their meeting tomorrow. oakland's new baseball team set for a sold out home opener last week. the ballers announced the team's inaugural home opener is sold out. the game is set for tomorrow at raymond park. it's ballers versus the yolo high wheelers. despite being sold out, the ticket says more tickets may become available and a quick reminder for you. you can watch nbc bay area news whenever you'd like. we stream 24/7 on roku and other streaming platforms. there, you can watch live newscasts, breaking news updates , and much more local content. well, right now at six, the first real sign of california's fire season, starting with an intense firefight east of livermore, we'll have more for you from the front lines this morning in a live report on that corral fire with the latest containment numbers, plus problems in one south bay neighborhood with winds

6:01 am

spreading embers leading to multiple fires, how people who live there took the fight into their own hands and turning up the heat. meteorologist kari hall is tracking even warmer weather moving into the bay area this this is today in the bay and a good morning to you on this monday. i'm marcus washington and i'm laura garcia. all right. here we go monday morning. and the heat is going to be turning up. and that's a big concern because we've had some fires developing that we're following this morning just east of livermore, where firefighters finally appear to have the upper hand on northern california's first large wildfire of the year. this is the corral fire. it burned more than 14,000 acres near tracey. now, evacuees are being told they can actually return to their homes. today, the bay's thom jensen live for us at the command post. this is between tracee and modesto this morning. okay, so tom, very busy weekend for those firefighters across the bay area good morning

6:02 am

to both of you. yeah, we've moved our location. you can see the destruction here at 6 a.m. away from that, where that press conference is going to be later to the devastation that you can see here, the fire destroying this 2200 square foot home where the couple here had lived for more than 35 years. the fire swept through this area over the weekend. after it started saturday afternoon, it quickly spread over thousands of acres, pushed by the winds that you can still see out here this morning and hear those winds blowing the fire burned more than 14,000 acres, as you said, mostly brush land, but also destroying this home and some outbuildings. it's now 50% contained, though, according to cal fire. we'll learn more about that from cal fire later this morning at a press conference. it was more than firefighters could do to contain it quickly, though, once it started and hundreds of homes were evacuated, a man told us about how his parents barely got out of this house here before it burned to the ground. they've seen fires over there before,

6:03 am

and cal fire is always, you know, stopped it before it even got close to their house. but i think the wind was just pushing this one too fast. and while firefighters were working to save other homes here, two homes were lost in san jose as a fire ripped through a neighborhood this near quimby road, close to eastridge mall. neighbors said it started in a garage and spread to a house next door, quickly engulfing the other home. it took two hours for san jose firefighters to get the fires under control. the cause there is under investigation. hopefully we'll have better news later this morning on the corral. fire here, but the winds must still be challenging this morning for the 475 firefighters on the fire. it's been really gusty out here this morning, but but it has been a little bit cooler and we have not seen the flames kick up. so it looks like it was at least knocked down overnight. hopefully they're getting an upper hand. we are going to hear more at 7:00. and we'll have that for you on today

6:04 am

in the bay. a press conference nearby here at an incident command center. and we'll be there live for now. we're live near tracey thom jensen nbc or today in the bay. all right. thank you very much, tom does make it tough out there with the heat increasing and the winds. so early. you know, you're thinking about that. it's just now june and we're already dealing with this. and we are going to have some better weather conditions for today. but unfortunately over the next couple of days, if they don't get complete containment, we may have some more issues. our temperatures starting out in the upper 60s this morning, and we had such a high rate of spread over the weekend, with those winds gusting at 25 to 45mph, it's still going to be breezy today, not only there, but all across the bay area our winds picking up at about 25 to 30mph. but in the area of the corral fire, we're still expecting some gusty winds today. and it may be highest in that area, so we'll have to watch out for that. one thing working in our favor is the high humidity. we're

6:05 am

starting out with 50 to 70% humidity, but then once again ahead we've been talking about this higher temperatures coming our way, as well as a heat advisory in effect for the inland valleys. we are looking at temperatures in the 90s and triple digits, but we still catch our break today with temperatures in the 60s and 70s. looks really nice, but will be a much different picture tomorrow. we'll talk about that. mike, how's it looking at the dublin interchange? you know, we had a little slowing, but that was pretty predictable. and they kind of eased up. so that was the first burst this morning. but for those who drove through the area noticed a lot of congestion over the weekend. 680 all those lanes open right on time. we heard about no delays and there are no problems right now. looks like the biggest congestion is right here near the mall stone ridge, so keep that in mind if you're on city streets. there's of course businesses in the area as well. san jose starts to show the easing from that first slowdown right on schedule. altamont pass some slowing out of there gusty winds at times. so just keep that in mind. oh, and 580, which had a closure over the weekend down around this area. that's

6:06 am

because of the fire that has been reopened. everything is moving smoothly. back to you. all right. thank you very much. history made in mexico, where voters have elected the country's first ever female president, claudia sheinbaum, now projected to have an insurmountable lead. she will also be mexico's first jewish president. sheinbaum is a climate scientist by profession, and once studied physics and engineering at cal. she was also current president andrés manuel lopez obrador's chosen successor. now the political fallout continues following the historic conviction of former president donald trump. however, polls suggest the guilty verdict is not doing much to sway voters. this comes as president biden is dealing with his son's legal challenges as he ramps up his reelection campaign today in the bay's alice barr. joining us from washington this morning, alice, good morning marcus. a lot to track today from the courtroom to the campaign trail, beginning with the trump campaign noting that they raised more than $52 million in

6:07 am

donations following the verdict. in that case, though, polling that we're seeing out since the verdict shows the largely unchanged nature of the presidential race in the wake of his hush money trial conviction on all 34 felony counts, former president trump saying he thinks the public would reach a breaking point if he's sentenced to prison or house arrest. that could happen. i don't know that the public would stand it. you know, i don't. i'm not sure the public would stand for it. since the verdict, trump supporters have posted violent threats online against the judge. jury and prosecutors. the former president's sentencing date is july 11th, just four days before the start of the republican national convention, when he is set to be officially named the party's presidential nominee. there's no doubt that this verdict has actually brought unifying, unifying our party without any question. what we've seen is never trumpers calling me and saying, tim, i'm on the bandwagon now. house republicans calling for the manhattan

district attorney and lead prosecutor to testify on capitol hill. a new abc news ipsos poll shows 50% of american adults surveyed right after the verdict believe it was correct. democrats adamant the trial upheld the rule of law. it's pretty simple, and that jury was selected in part by donald trump and his attorneys. they've added each of the jurors. he had every right that every other criminal defendant has in that courtroom. it all comes as jury selection begins today in delaware for the trial of president biden's son, hunter biden, on federal charges related to a gun purchase in 2018. he's accused of lying on a government form and buying and owning a gun while using illegal drugs. the president's son has pleaded not guilty. sources familiar with the matter tell nbc news. the biden campaign is planning to stay quiet about the hunter biden trial. the president is heading overseas this week. he's due to give a speech on thursday in france to

6:09 am

commemorate the 80th anniversary of d-day. marcus. all right. alice barr in washington this morning. alice. thank you. meanwhile, fresh off of his conviction, former president donald trump is coming to the bay area to raise money. he's attending a fundraiser in san francisco thursday. the lowest cost for a ticket to that event is estimated at $50,000. and vice president kamala harris, she's heading to southern california ahead of her own bay area visit this week. harris arrives in los angeles later today, which is now her primary california residence. on wednesday, she'll attend two bay area fundraisers, one in oakland and another in san francisco, before heading back to washington. what's going to be very nice in san francisco? if you can see it taking a live look outside, look at the fog hanging on. kerry's got a look at our forecast. so you say it's going to be the nicest day of the week today. yeah. and enjoying the fog because it won't be there tomorrow. and temperatures will be heating up.

6:10 am

take a look at this beautiful view we have from the tri valley looking over toward dublin. we are going to start out with a few high clouds today, and they will continue into the afternoon in morgan hill. those high clouds give us a filtered sunshine, so expect some peeks of sun throughout today and temperatures headed for the mid 70s. and we're going to see mid 70s. and where we see the areas in red that's more of a heat risk. and that's definitely going to be an issue as we go into the next couple of days as our highs head for the triple digits in fairfield and vacaville, we'll see low 90s in the south county tomorrow afternoon. so much different picture. we'll talk about those changes in the forecast coming up. mike's been trying to find us some lower gas prices. yeah i guess the good news is that things haven't gone up as far as the lows since last week. so they held we found those through you on gasbuddy.com. so alameda county fremont got 4.39 at valero star. get valero and star gas on grimmer boulevard. the

lows held in santa clara county. their their best is cupertino at 453 in the middle right here. that's the great gas on north de anza boulevard and in marin county. larkspur fuel 24/7 on redwood highway. that's 469. that was reported just about eight hours ago. so good stuff. current reporting out there. let's get out to the roadways, see what the current status is. green sensors for the most part, as you would expect at 611 now, just right there to turn the clock out here in contra costa county is slowing for highway for typical richmond as well. and then of course the bay bridge backup and highway 37. let's show you the bay bridge. we filled in the toll plaza. now back to the end of the toll plaza. still smooth off the 880 overcrossing. that's good stuff. and notice vasco road, now over a half hour drive from marsh creek out of contra costa, county down to 580, in alameda county. back to you. thanks, mike. well, and welcome visitors spotted in the south bay. the seems to actually be a growing trend. coming up, a big cat that has neighbors on high alert and

than what we typically start our mornings, and then we're going to not see much of a rise in temps here as the sky stays mostly cloudy, it's going to be the coolest day of the week. we'll talk about a significant warm up coming our way in just a few minutes, and we do have a little more traffic westbound with those tail lights across the san mateo bridge, but not enough to cue the slowing just yet. notice very few breaks tapped right here. a smooth drive across the richmond bridge, but there's more slowing at the toll plaza there. we'll show you the build coming up. well good morning. very happy monday to you. it's the first trading day of june. may very good month for stocks. nasdaq gained 7. powered higher by nvidia. big jump on the dow on friday. shares in gamestop ready

6:16 am

to jump again after that. internet influencer nicknamed roaring kitty posted a screenshot of his positions on gamestop totaling more than $115 million. it's one of those meme stocks where people talk it up on the internet. other people buy it, driving the price up. and if you're wondering why it would matter, some guy with a strange nickname has a big position in gamestop. it doesn't matter. it shouldn't affect the price at all. but very strange things drive that company's shares. you may recall we interviewed the founder of the company himself, who said buying stock in gamestop was a bad idea . the company owns a chain of stores that sells video games in a time which nearly all video game players download their games directly. donald trump's campaign has joined tiktok, the campaign says it will try to get trump's winning message to as many people as possible. now this despite the fact it was trump and his administration who first suggested banning tiktok, an idea the biden administration

6:17 am

has adopted. though the biden campaign is also got a tiktok account. independent candidate for president robert kennedy jr says he's been offered a town hall on x, the company we used to call twitter x says donald trump will also participate in a separate town hall. you may recall ron desantis launched his campaign on x, and it was a technical disaster. well, just into our newsroom, spotify tells us it's raising prices for the second time in a year. premium service now costs $11.99. family and student prices going up two. nasa scrubbed the launch of its boeing starliner capsule over the weekend. it was supposed to carry two astronauts to the international space station. now, they haven't said why only a countdown computer that detected a problem. we don't know if the problem was with the capsule or the nasa rocket. they may try later this week, but we do know that boeing has been bedeviled by problems with this capsule. who have it has yet to carry anybody, anywhere. it's

6:18 am

seven years behind schedule. mean while spacex has carried astronauts to the iss in its dragon capsule nine times later, this week, spacex will conduct a test of its starship rockets. starship is there on the right largest rocket ever constructed, boeing's starliner capsule on the left. they have such similar names, i thought it might be useful to show them side by side. starliner yet to succeed starship designed to take astronauts to the moon and beyond. but it, too, is not carrying any actual people in it. but know your starships and starliner's. and we built this city exactly right. not on rock and roll, though, right. all right. thanks, scott. hey, olympic gold medalist simone biles. let's talk about her, because she is one step closer to competing for team usa in paris. now. she won her ninth all around title. this is the national title last night at u.s. gymnastics championships in texas, her victory officially clinched her a spot to compete in u.s. olympic trials later this summer. biles is now the

6:19 am

first gymnast, man or woman to win nine all around titles. she finished with the highest two day score on four events, last time she actually did that was during the nationals in 2018. and don't forget, you can catch the olympics right here on nbc bay area. i'm always just amazed by how high she can bounce. so fun to watch. well, this morning a san jose neighborhood is on high alert after an unwanted visitor, a mountain lion. look at that little dog trying to take it on. this is video from about 10:00 last night at a home along 24th street near roosevelt park in san jose. that dog coming face to face with a mountain lion. at one point, the lion also ended up on the roof of a home. neighbors are wondering if it's the same animal that was seen on security cameras last wednesday at a milpitas mobile home park. the lion was also spotted at another home hours later, just a few miles away. with all of these

6:20 am

sightings, neighbors in san jose say they're optimistic state wildlife officials will eventually track it down and relocate it far away from that chihuahua. well, the monterey bay aquarium is saying goodbye to one of its otters. yeah. kit is heading to the detroit zoo. she's actually been part of the sea otter surrogacy program, working to help boost california's southern sea otter population. so the 14 year old otter has been the surrogate mom to ten pups during their time in monterey. now, the aquarium says it is time for her to retire the aquarium says that the detroit zoo has a great sea otter program, and kit will have plenty of new friends. their last day to catch her over in monterey will be today. herm retiring in detroit? yeah have to adjust to that weather. sorry, kid. leaving like california, but still, after raising ten pups. yeah, yeah, she deserves a vacation. definitely so. all right, well, nice day to go. enjoy. kit this is the nicest day of the week,

6:21 am

right? this is going to be the coolest day before we talk about a big surge in temperatures and a heat wave coming our way, we're going to start out with the fog in san francisco. that keeps those temperatures nice and cool near the coastline. can't even see the golden gate bridge. so this is your view this morning coming out of the north bay into the city and our temperatures right now in the mid 50s there. it's in the upper 50s for oakland, 60 right now in napa. so it already feels warmer than it usually does. and it's also more humid, all thanks to a storm system that's passing just to our north. so we're also going to stay mostly cloudy today. and you can see our high temperatures underneath that is the risk of heat in the forecast. so this means there's no major risk to your health with these kinds of temperatures. but then going into the next couple of days that heat risk ramps up. so in areas in orange that's a moderate risk of heat. and the

6:22 am

impact to your health, we'll see some upper 80s and even low 90s in the south bay. and as well as the north bay, we're up to 95 in santa rosa going into the day on wednesday. with those highs in the 90s and even over 100 degrees for the interior valleys, that's when you really need to take it easy and make sure you're staying hydrated. one of our usual hot spots, brentwood, we're up to 103 degrees this wednesday. you do want to make sure that you're prepping today while temperatures are still mild. and we're going to see those numbers coming down. but once again, it's not going to be as cool as what we'll see today. and a look at our 7-day forecast shows those highs in the 70s today. but up to 92 tomorrow. such a big difference over a short period of time. so we're not going to ease into this heat. we're just going to have it blast us tomorrow into the next few days. and still pretty warm this weekend. as our highs head down to the low 80s in san francisco will also be quite warm, hitting 80 degrees but then bringing it back to the 60s

6:23 am

by the weekend. mike, you're looking at the weight out of richmond. yeah, that was a little more gradual change than what you showed on the change in temperatures. carrie oh my goodness. all right. over here. we expect this also the richmond bridge the back slowly building and now still flowing. but the crowd is showing the slowdown on the sensors as well. just that bit right there approaching the toll plaza heading over towards san rafael. north bay looks great right now. we'll see some slowing into nevada over the next few minutes. building for 37 a bit, but really holding steady for most of these slower routes. just a gradual build out of antioch and pittsburgh. we do see an incident just south of that carquinez bridge. so we'll track that and make sure our benicia bridge make sure everything's moving smoothly like it is for the rest of the bay. look at that south bay and peninsula back to you. thank you. mike 623 for you this morning. and pride is here. and san francisco is gearing up still ahead this morning. how you can be a part to help install the iconic pink triangle lights display. keep it right here. you're watching today on

6:24 am

6:25 am

6:26 am

that's where crews are planning to install the iconic pink triangle display friday and saturday. organizers are still looking for volunteers. the triangle will stay up through the end of pride month. the pride parade takes place june 30th. today, two pride flags will go up in different parts of

6:27 am

the city. bay area san francisco pride organizers will raise the symbol of unity at city hall. mayor london breed is among those expected to attend. in the meantime, vta is raising its flag at its san jose headquarters. santa clara county supervisor cindy chavez is among those invited. both events start at 1130 in the morning. nbc's american ninja warrior returns tonight to start its 16th season. well, you know, and it's following a milestone season, which we saw vance walker becoming just the third person to win the show's million dollar prize. walker is among those ninjas back this season trying to make it back to back million dollar wins, but dozens of other ninjas, including one from the bay area eyeing that prize, as well as this year's host ashley was telling our mike inouye it is not going to be an easy season to win, so the obstacles are harder this year. that's side by side. racing is really going to test them, but the ninjas are always up for a challenge, including the bay

6:28 am

area's own david campbell, the godfather, who is the only ninja who has competed in all 16 seasons. he's back. wow. okay, so you can watch the season premiere of american ninja warrior tonight at 8:00 right here on nbc bay area. it's going to be followed by the weakest link at ten, and then nbc bay area news at 11 627. right now we've got a lot more ahead at 630, including gaining control on two weekend fires, one in the south bay where multiple homes were destroyed, and the large wildfire east of livermore. all this with hotter weather on tap. we're tracking the potentially dangerous conditions

6:29 am

6:30 am

6:31 am

but i'm not taking a chance right now at 630. a chaotic night for firefighters as fires jump from home to home. the intense conditions driving the flames, and how some neighbors took the firefight into their own hands. plus, major progress on the corral fire as neighbors return home east of livermore. we are live at the scene, tracking the latest on containment and history in mexico, as voters elect the first woman president. mexican nationals in the bay area also participated, but not without some confusion. the problems leaving some voters shut out. this is today in the bay and this is also monday morning.

6:32 am

thanks for joining us on today in the bay. i'm laura garcia and i'm marcus washington. a lot to get to this morning when we're talking about those fires. first two homes in east san jose. they are destroyed this morning after a fire. investigators say that those flames started in a garage of a home. this is on quimby road near eastridge mall. that fire quickly spreading to neighboring homes. but investigators do say that the embers then drifted, starting to more fires in adjacent neighborhood. it forced two. it forced some of those people to dangerously try to put that fire out themselves. we actually saw some of them use their feet, even a garden hose, to try to put out those flames. embers of tree, i guess a palm tree. we're starting to fall on my driveway and i saw one, stomped it out, saw another, stomped it out. next thing you know, it was just out of control and one that felt like about this big got me on the back of my neck and i just

6:33 am

screamed, i'm up on the roof. i start spraying the neighbor's house because i don't know if he's home, but i'm not taking a chance. wow. okay, so a total of six structures, including the two homes, burned in the fire. no one was hurt. the cause of that fire is still under investigation. well, now to the east bay, where crews are still working to put out the corral fire. so far, it has burned more than 14,000 acres. it's near tracee. evacuees are able to finally return to their homes today in the bay. thom jensen live for us there on the fire lines. tom, what do we know about this situation right now? good morning to both of you. well, we know that did destroy this one home and some outbuildings here and on some other properties. this is the only home that it destroyed. and it's amazing because you look around us and there are a lot of homes where they look like just islands of unburned property and unburned homes in the middle of just hundreds and thousands of acres of brush land. we do know, like you said, it's a little more than 14,000 acres. total acreage burned. we know it's

6:34 am

windy again this morning, even though cal fire said weather conditions are improving, they were able to get containment lines around about 50% of the fire. i keep checking the cal fire incident, map and the app to see if maybe there's some new information. but we're still at the information. they gave out about 7:00 last night. 14,000 acres, about 475 firefighters, battling the fire here, and like i said, 50% containment in the next half hour, though, just about two miles from here at an incident command center, they're going to have a press conference. we'll have some brand new numbers for you. live on today in the bay at in the 7:00 hour. so look forward to those numbers. okay, so we've only heard that one home was destroyed. has it changed overnight? tom that's all we heard. we're going to ask them that question today. we think that there was no more homes destroyed. we heard that other homes were were threatened, the house here where this elderly couple has lived for 35 years,

6:35 am

they lost a lot of vehicles, some outbuildings, all of their personal belongings. their son told us that they had to just quickly get out. they weren't even able to get jewelry and photos, things like that, barely got out before the home. like i said, they lived in for 35 years. burned to the ground. it's still under investigation. what caused the fire here? hopefully we'll get some new details on that. exactly where it started and possibly how it started. at 7:00. we should at least get updated acreage and containment information as far and as far as how many personnel are out here. all right. well, thankfully, the people in that home okay. and safe. right. it really illustrates how you just never have enough time. you never know. thank you. tom well, meteorologist cory hall joins us now. so let's talk a little bit about some of the conditions that firefighters are going to face today. and as he mentioned, the conditions are a little bit more favorable, higher humidity. and it's still breezy, but not as much of a win. but that's that reminder to all of us to already start prepping for what could be a very busy wildfire

6:36 am

season. and looking at the current conditions there, we do still have that westerly wind temperatures in the upper 60s. as we go through the day, it will be breezy and even into the day tomorrow. in the area of the fire we're looking at those winds funneling through some of those passes and we'll see at times 25 to possibly 30mph wind gusts throughout today, humidity is higher, which slows the spread of the fire. but still the grass is very dry. and then starting tomorrow, it's going to get really hot. and for some of our inland areas, all of those in shaded orange will be under a heat advisory from tuesday to thursday. today, once again, still mild and staying mostly cloudy with high humidity, but we'll be tracking those changes as we go into the next couple of days, with the possibility of some extreme heat and possibly even some triple digits. and as that heat takes hold of the bay area this week, it's another example of our climate in crisis. the official start of summer is drawing closer, and so

6:37 am

too does the concern around climate change and its disproportionate impact on low income communities and communities of color. according to the nonprofit trust for america's health, more people died in 2022 than any other weather event combined. heat is also one of the major causes of death in the workplace, both for outdoor and agricultural workers , as well as people who work in manufacturing. we spoke to the chief science officer at the robert wood johnson foundation foundation, alonso plowe, who says local and state governments need to provide better remedies and conditions to mitigate those dangerous summer temperatures that can be turning parking lots into, open space and parks, planting of trees, that makes a big difference, cities should be thinking about, for low income families, energy supports that allow them to be able to run air

6:38 am

conditioning, in their, fragile, budgets, and then an attention, i think, particularly in low income housing, air conditioning just has to become a requirement. and not something optional. the threat of rising temperatures on public health is compounded in under-resourced communities, where most of the vulnerable people live, and there is an increased health risk, such as heat stroke and heat exhaustion. back to you, laura. very interesting. thank you very much, carrie. 638 right now, historic new developments in mexico, which just elected its first woman president. she actually has a long history right here in the bay area today in the bay ginger conejero saab joins us live in san francisco this morning. and ginger, this election is also so historic for mexican citizens that have been living abroad, including right here in the bay area that is correct. good morning, laura, for the first time ever, mexican nationals living abroad were

6:39 am

allowed to vote in this historic election. consulates here in san francisco and san jose allowed that for the first time. now also for a also a huge first, i should say for the country of mexico, a female president is projected to become president claudia, or a female is projected to become president again, i should say claudia sheinbaum received around 60% of the vote. that is according to the national electoral institute. sheinbaum is a climate scientist and she completed work for her doctorate thesis right here in the bay area at lawrence berkeley national laboratory. she was also the former mayor of mexico city, now opposition candidate. social. galvez had under 30% of the vote, while jorge alvarez martinez received around 10% of the vote. both candidates have reportedly conceded the election. now electing a female after 200 years is a huge first for mexico, as is allowing votes outside of the country in this

6:40 am

election. for the first time, mexican nationals living abroad took to the polls here in san francisco at the consulate as well as down in san jose, but it did not go as smoothly as many hoped it would. many waited for hours and they were still turned away. it's crazy how how many people are here trying to show their dignity, their liberty to vote and not having that opportunity to be able to do it in the right manner and in the democratic way. i've been here like six hours and we're still waiting, but i'm not leaving because, you know, i want to stay. if i can vote until tomorrow, i stay here. well, that did not happen. voting tomorrow, which is today, did not happen. some would be voters never did cast their ballot despite being in line when the doors closed at 5:00. that added to some tense scenes that you're seeing and hearing there. people chanting and pounding on the door at the at the consulate in

san jose, hundreds were turned away. now national institute for elections spokesperson admitted they did not expect such a huge turnout for this election, but they also said that voters had an opportunity before yesterday to vote. they could either do so by mail or somehow online. now, sheinbaum is expected to assume her historic post on october 1st. that will be, for one six year term as the new president of mexico in san francisco, ginger conejero saab, today in the bay. a lot of history being made. ginger, thanks for the latest. a live look this morning at 641 as we take a look at downtown san jose. so one week from today, council members holding their final hearing on the proposed budget for the next fiscal year. later today, mayor matt hahn releases his final budget message. now the mayor making homeless a top priority and saturday, this is during his state of the city address at happy hollow park. he talked

6:42 am

about investing more in affordable housing and supportive services. this is the bold all of the above approach it will take to end the era of encampments in san jose, reduce the flow of people into homelessness, and create a city that works for all of us. mehan says that the city is also remaining focused on cleaning up blight, and at one point he demonstrated his commitment to cleaning up by picking up some trash. let's take a live look outside. i don't think that's dublin. i think that's san francisco. you know what? yeah, i think so. fog yeah. taking a live look outside. but kerry says if you like the fog, enjoy it today. tomorrow it won't be around. yeah we're going to see a lot of changes over a short period of time this morning. starting out foggy in the city, low clouds over san jose, and we are going to see those clouds continue throughout today. a little bit more of a gusty wind, but also breezy into the morning. turning windy for the

6:43 am

afternoon and then tomorrow some inland heat as our valleys reach into the 90s and even over 100 degrees. more hot days and warm nights ahead with an elevated fire danger. and we'll have to monitor for. but once again, that's that live look in san francisco with the low clouds, fog and drizzle, we'll see a mostly cloudy morning into the afternoon, only a few peeks of sun and temperatures in the 60s there. but then take a look at what to expect elsewhere. we are going to see highs in the mid 70s for san jose, 75 as well for livermore, 83, in vacaville and in santa rosa, some upper 70s. but we've been talking about this a spike in temperatures in some spots nearly 20 degrees between today and tomorrow. we'll talk more about that heat coming up. mike, you're checking on the san mateo bridge? yeah. i'm also checking to see if there's a way we can pocket some of that. low clouds and fog and drizzle. use it later on for those temperatures. all right, carrie, we're watching for the timing on that for the week. the timing on the san mateo bridge.

6:44 am

pretty typical. we do see break tapping going on now. westbound the commute direction to the peninsula out of the east bay shows up on our sensors. so does the feed off of 880, which continues down to the dumbarton bridge. we'll see a little more slowing on the peninsula side right about here. coming up over the next few minutes. the south bay does show a little bill here, northbound 101, as well as 87 and more traffic coming in out of south county right on schedule. san martin continues to show that slowing in toward morgan hill just for this short segment. by the time we get to cochran, everything's back at speed until you get into san jose and in the city. the note the blue line continues with that bus bridge between blossom hill and tammy. and with that track, work back to you. thanks, mike. 644 right now, not what you want to hear as the weather shapes up for a beach day ahead on today in the bay, a shark attack off the coast of california. the incident down south causing some concern among summer swimmers. jury selection begins today in hunter biden's trial. we'll walk you through what the charges he's facing coming up and stafford women giving it their all tonight.

joins us now. the allegations he's the younger biden registered to buy a gun and then he lied on the form. yeah. this

6:48 am

is something he has acknowledged in the past on a previous, plea deal. there's a checkbox on the form you fill out when you buy a gun that attests you are not an addict. he checked that box, claiming he was not. now there's another federal law that says those who abuse drugs may not legally possess a weapon. the charges today, though, have nothing to do with president biden or the biden administration, nor do the other charges that hunter biden faces on failure to pay taxes, which will be tried on later. we. don't think the president will attend his son's trial. however. the president's calendar show he and the first lady will stay at their delaware home today, not far from the courthouse. in a statement today, the president said he had no comment other than he has boundless love for his son. tomorrow, the president will be back in the white house. we expect he will announce new temporary limits on the number of people who can apply for asylum when border officials say they're overwhelmed, which is most days now. this is the same

6:49 am

plan republicans came up with in their tough new border bill, which they then voted against at the behest of donald trump, who said he wanted the border problem to remain an issue in the campaign. a reminder we have two border crossing problems. the first is people crossing illegally, you know, over the wall, so to speak. the other, much larger challenge are the people crossing legally into following. the us law, showing up to ports of entry, asking for asylum, the bill that was never passed. and we think that the president will try to announce tomorrow deals with that second, larger problem. donald trump spoke over the weekend to fox news about his new felony conviction, saying once again he was barred from speaking about it, though that's not specifically true. i'm not allowed to talk about it because i have a gag order. i'm probably , i guess, the first presidential nominee and the leader, the leading crooked joe by a lot. that's not allowed to

6:50 am

talk. maybe they're doing me a big favor. who knows? but i'm not allowed to talk. i'm gagged. nobody's ever heard of it. now trump is specifically barred from talking about court staff and witnesses. absolutely allowed to talk about the case, the judge, the prosecutor, which he did. he also spoke about the potential for unrest where he jailed or put under house arrest. so that could happen. i don't know that the public would stand it. you know, i don't i'm not sure the public would stand for it with a house arrest or i think i think it would be tough for the public to take, you know, at a certain point there's a breaking point. now, asked about that, speaker johnson said on fox news sunday republicans should fight back, but within legal means, always remaining within the rule of law and the system. listen, we are the rule of law. party chaos is not a conservative value, and we have to fight back and we will with

6:51 am

everything in our arsenal. but we do that within the confines of the rule of law. we believe in our institutions now, trump will be sentenced july 11th and of course still faces three more criminal prosecutions. laura a lot to follow there. thank you very much, scott. well listen to this. a southern california beach remains closed after a shark attacked a swimmer yesterday. it happened in del mar at the del mar beach. that's just about 20 miles north of san diego. the swimmer was bitten in the torso along with his left arm and hand. luckily, his injuries are not life threatening. he was actually swimming with a group of people right now. the beach is scheduled to reopen tomorrow. well, what a run for stanford's women's softball team. and they are still going. they actually have another shot at the top team tonight for a berth in the world series. the cardinal came through in a big way yesterday. yesterday against ucla ava gaule gaul actually hit that line drive base hit in the third giving the cardinal the lead. it would actually hold up. stanford

6:52 am

wins the game 3 to 1. the cardinal have now survived five elimination games in this tournament for the cardinal. they move on tonight. they're going to actually have to beat texas not once, but twice. now. if texas wins the first game, that would eliminate the cardinal. i watched a little of that game yesterday with my dad. yeah. oh my gosh, the arms on those girls. it's amazing i know. all right. well you know what else is amazing. new for you this morning. want to congratulate three very very special graduates. they're graduating eighth grade this past week. we're talking about claire, jack and catherine. if you've been watching today in the bay for quite some time, you know who those three are. they are laura's triplets. they're heading off to high school. crazy. i remember when i first came here, they were just tiny. yeah, they were little, right? yeah. it just goes by so fast. yeah, they graduated over the weekend. that's the reason my dad was in town as well as other family members, so simply thrilled for them. it was a really nice ceremony. and guess what? i didn't cry. you did

6:53 am

amazing. oh no, i am shocked about it because i saw them so happy and so prepared and ready that you share in that happiness, right? yeah, it was good and you said they were talking about driving. not ready for that. then i'll be crying. wow three cars. no maybe a van. they could share. congratulations. times three. yes. thank you very much. good morning, mr. garcia. yeah. thank goodness that the graduation was not going to be tomorrow or the next day. yeah we have one on thursday. issues with the coming in. yeah. it's going to be nice today. and temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s. as we can see all of the cloud cover that gets us started on this monday morning. so this is a look at our high temperatures underneath that the color contour showed the risk of the heat to your health. so there's not a risk for today as our highs head for the 60s and 70s. but this is something we're going to be seeing more often on our weather

6:54 am

maps showing the bright oranges and red that is a moderate to major risk to your health with these kinds of temperatures, that we'll see a high of 102 in vacaville and fairfield and upper 80s for san jose. and we're also going to see 80s into san francisco and low to mid 90s for much of the north bay. and it's still pretty hot on wednesday as well. temperatures don't cool off as much during the overnight hours, so it's going to make it feel even worse as we go throughout the weekend. more of these hot days continue. chu looking at fairfield, we're going to see the hottest day here on tomorrow, but it's still really hot on wednesday, and then we do get some relief toward the end of the week into the weekend. a look at our 7-day forecast shows that in general, our inland areas will be in the low to mid 90s from tomorrow through thursday and then just a little bit better going into saturday and sunday with highs and low 80s for san francisco. we're going to reach 80 tomorrow, but then quickly see those numbers coming back down in time for the weekend. mike,

6:55 am

you've been tracking a few issues for the commute. yeah, but a few fewer cars at the bay bridge getting a little bit of a break, but the volume overall is kicking in around the bay. i do want to show you some slowing as we talked about coming in through petaluma down toward novato, right on schedule. so that's not a surprise. the rest of the bay shows a nice drive. but again, the south bay really seeing a build back to you. all right. thank you very much. happening now. big changes coming to california dmv starting today. it's expanding digital services to reduce some of those wait times. but it means many services will no longer be available in person. and that includes vehicle renewals, which are now not past due drivers. license renewals, renewals, renewals can't say that today, which don't require an in-person visit and replacements for lost or stolen driver's license or id cards, among other things. you can actually get those done by visiting the dmv website or visiting a kiosk. hopefully it'll ma it ake
